BOTA Vision

 

Strategies for Achieving the Vision:

1. Engage, serve, and draw strength from distinguished Black men in the academy.

2. Enhance our intellectually stimulating community of acclaimed scholars.

3. Provide sufficient time and resources for productive and creative scholarship.

4. Ensure ideas are widely disseminated to other scholars, the community, public policymakers, and the world at large.

Year 1 (2015-2016)

Goal 1: Increase membership through heightened awareness and stronger branding.

Goal 1 Objectives:

1.1 Develop an integrated marketing plan, including necessary supporting and communications materials, to target potential members.

1.2 Develop a brand, logo, and symbol for the organization that will be professional, compelling, and instantly recognizable.

1.3 Develop a marketing strategy, and re-brand the organization around the 15 year anniversary, which would be in 2016.

Year 2 (2016-2017)

Goal 1: Increase membership through heightened awareness and stronger branding.

Goal 1 Objectives:

1.4 Establish a series of programs linked to Brothers of the Academy.

Goal 2: Make the organization relevant for those inside and outside of the academy.

Goal 2 Objectives:

2.1 Development mentorship program between assistant professors and tenured faculty.

2.2 Foster and sustain commitment and loyalty to mission statement, and support members through effective mentorship.

2.3 Develop, implement, and provide sufficient resources to support a systematic orientation process for new members.

Goal 3: Develop a meaningful agenda to engage membership.

Goal 3 Objectives:

3.5 Host cultural events throughout the year to encourage dialogue outside the academic realm in order to better solidify the mentoring relationship.

Goal 4: Create symposiums and develop collaborative ventures with sister organizations.

Goal 4 Objectives:

4.1 Develop a regional and national conference for Brothers of the Academy.

4.2 Reestablish and strengthen bonds with members of Sisters of the Academy.

4.3 Collaborate academically and socially with Sisters of the Academy.

4.4 Promote opportunities for BOTA members to network and collaborate with each other and with BOTA.

Year 3 (2017-2018)

Goal 3: Develop a meaningful agenda to engage membership.

Goal 3 Objectives:

3.1 Develop mentorship program between doctoral candidates and faculty.

3.2 Match students with faculty who have similar research interests. This alleviates the stress of students having to find a mentor on their own.

3.3 Provide a framework for the relationship which encourages structure, goal setting, and accountability.

3.4 Provide faculty with training on how to effectively assist their mentees.

3.5 Host cultural events throughout the year to encourage dialogue outside the academic realm in order to better solidify the mentoring relationship.
